"Believe it or not, I (and son) was at the Grand Canyon, Arizona, when this plane flew over. More exactly, at Desert View, on the south rim of the canyon. It was August 11th, 1997, about 5 or 6pm local time. There were tourists roaming about, I saw a man look up to the sky, and point. I looked up, saw a jet plane flying high. Didn't notice anything. Looked up again about 30 seconds later. saw vapour trail and took photo. Also heard the plane 'crackling'. The description on the web 'air ripping' applies, except that the sound was not continuous, and tapered to silence. can't recall much; I saw wings, and heard the engine. See the map for my location, path of plane and area of photo. I don't know altitude, type of plane.
The last thing that I expected to see where there were hundreds of cameras and VCR's, was something strange. By the time I saw the vapour trail, the plane was far. I was probably the only one that took a picture 'up' instead of down toward the canyon.
